DIVE SITES
The Dive Sites
Every site on this route, aboard M/Y Aphrodite from the Red Sea coast.
Rocky Island
15–40m+
A mythical site — a fringing reef circling the island drops steeply to great depth, and constant currents feed a struggle for life on the wall. Covered with the most beautiful soft corals, gorgonians, fans, sponges and black coral. Grey and silvertip sharks in the blue, and maybe mantas, sailfish and dolphins.
Zabargad
5–40m
A superb dive spot — walls, drop-offs and a shallow coral garden. On the north side a nameless 70m wreck lies upside down at 24m, its stern section nearly intact with stairs, rail and bridge.
St John's
5–40m
Deep in the south near Rocky Island — exciting drop-offs, one wall covered with big gorgonians and the other with colourful soft corals. In the blue: hammerheads, greys, silvertips, whitetips, barracuda, tuna, sometimes mantas and dolphins.
Gota Abu Galawa
5–18m
A coral-covered 1950s wreck at 18m — a great photography and night dive.
Elphinstone
5–60m+
A long finger reef with steep east and west walls and submerged plateaus north and south, patrolled by sharks.
